SUMMARY:Personalised Digital Healthcare and the European Health Data Space
DESCRIPTION:It is expected that during the six months of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU the processing will continue\, presumably at first reading\, of the proposal for the European Health Data Space Regulation. Among other aims\, one of the effects of this project will be to promote personalised healthcare\, through the provision of face-to-face and virtual services for patients\, specifically adapted to their characteristics and health situation. \nPersonalised medicine will reinforce the efficiency and sustainability of the NHS\, as the use of data and its exploitation (AI\, big data) offers professionals new tools to help in prevention\, diagnosis and treatment. \nThe application of these digital personalised medicine tools\, including genomics\, to Primary and Community Care\, in an integrated manner with hospital care\, is being promoted in Spain\, through the regional health services\, as in the rest of the EU\, by the arrival of MRR funds\, through the Plan for the Digital Transformation of Primary and Community Care\, endowed with €230 million\, and the Plan for Digital Personalised Care\, endowed with €130 million. \nBoth plans will be developed in collaboration with the autonomous communities\, offering the possibility of improving care for people through the primary and secondary use of the data that the Regulation will regulate. \n\n\nA meeting with representatives of the health ministries of some member states\, the health departments of the autonomous communities and European institutions\, business associations and representatives of the bio-health sector to analyse: \n\nThe experience of the primary use of data in healthcare in some European guest countries and the personalised digital care projects of the autonomous communities\, as part of the NHS digital health strategy.\nThe general framework of the European Regulation on the European Health Data Space.\nThe experience of some European countries in managing the secondary use of health data and the prospects this opens up for the bio-health\, pharmaceutical and research sectors.\nChallenges for the use of data in terms of ethics\, technology and cybersecurity.

SUMMARY:Advancing inclusivity in health care through the use of telehealth
DESCRIPTION:Access to health care is a universal right that must be available to all individuals\, regardless of their background. However\, there are still significant disparities in access to services\, particularly among marginalized populations and underserved communities. To bridge this gap and ensure equitable health outcomes\, it is crucial to focus on achieving inclusivity in health care delivery. Telemedicine has gained increasing prominence as a promising solution to address these disparities. \nBy leveraging the potential of telehealth\, providers can reduce costs and increase availability of services\, while patients can receive quality care regardless of their area of residence. Moreover\, telehealth solutions may include accessibility features\, such as screen readers\, closed captioning\, and alternative communication methods\, to accommodate individuals with disabilities and allow immunocompromised or severely ill patients to receive consultations from the comfort and safety of their homes. \nTo achieve optimal inclusivity through telehealth\, it is crucial to understand the unique challenges faced by diverse communities and tailor the solutions accordingly. The 1-hour webinar\, hosted by WHO/Europe’s data and digital health team via Zoom\, will bring together a panel of experts who have experience in the use of telehealth as a part of the digital transformation of health care\, and will share insights on best practices and lessons learned.

SUMMARY:Integrating digital health technologies in cancer care
DESCRIPTION:The steady increase in life expectancy\, mean age and cancer survivorship across the developed countries together with evidence from cancer and geriatrics care research bring forward the urgent need to deal with the “age issue” as a key component of global cancer care strategies. \nAdditionally\, increasing age and comorbidities are often associated with a discriminant lower use of aggressive cancer therapies\, as well as a higher neglection for their preferences in health-related quality of life care support. \nLifechamps\, the organization in charge of the event\, aims to address the inherent complexity caused by cancer treatments and to act in the monitoring of health status and improvement of quality of life in a significant manner by using emerging technologies in the fields of Big Data\, Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence. \nThis event aims to address the following topics: \n\nUnderstanding the role of survivorship within the scope of the EU Beating Cancer Plan: key research and innovations aspects\nPatient perspective: Importance of digital solutions for cancer patients and its potential\nIntroduction of preliminary results\n\neCAN will participate at the panel discussion: Stakeholders’ perspective on the role of R&I in the digital transformation of cancer care continuum.

SUMMARY:Empowerment Tips & Tricks for the use of teleconsultation solutions
DESCRIPTION:The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH)\, member of WP8\, is organising a tailor-made session to provide eCAN participants with essential insights into harnessing the possibilities of teleconsultation\, that allows healthcare professionals and patients to communicate and interact in real-time\, regardless of their physical locations. Through teleconsultation\, patients can seek medical advice\, receive diagnoses\, and even undergo treatment without the need for in-person visits to healthcare facilities. \nThe workshop encourages an open dialogue to offer practical tips and tricks to navigate the intricacies of teleconsultation effectively\, optimizing user experience and maximizing patient engagement. While teleconsultation is not suitable for all medical conditions and situations\, it has emerged as an effective and increasingly popular method of healthcare delivery\, particularly in situations where in-person visits are not necessary or feasible. \nThis event fosters collaboration\, networking\, and knowledge-sharing within the secor of virtual healthcare\, promising to transform the delivery and receipt of healthcare services thanks to telecommunications technologies.

SUMMARY:7th ATHEA CONFERENCE "Looking beyond borders: Global health economics"
DESCRIPTION:In most European countries with their highly developed healthcare systems and ageing populations\, communicable diseases were of little concern for public health\, authorities and researchers compared to their non-communicable counterparts. This changed with the COVID-19 pandemic\, which had an impact on societies and health systems world-wide and demonstrated most vividly that health systems do not exist independently of each other. As this year’s general conference theme\, ATHEA therefore aims to have a look beyond the borders of Europe and see what health economics can contribute to these countries. In order to gain a better understanding of the field\, ATHEA will organise a thematic stream and invite experts as keynote speakers.
